Interactive Web applications, of the specific type commonly known as "chat", are not allowed on DRH Internet Inc servers. For the purposes of this policy, a "chat" system is defined as a Web site or portion thereof that encourages visitors to post messages that are immediately viewable by other users, in order to engage in "real-time" conversation with other visitors at the same site.

The Web model is unsuited to this type of application, and the impact on servers is immense. Part of the problem is that "chat" activity often leads to "cybersex". The volume of traffic and of CGI calls quickly becomes a major server load problem. For the benefit of our many general business and informational users, we are keeping our servers optimized for those uses.

Using JAVA IRC applets

It is perfectly acceptable to include a Java IRC applet on your web page. This way all of the chat data does not go through our servers. And it uses the IRC protocol, which was designed for chat (so you get better performance).
