We prefer that our customers register their domain names with us, because when we are the registrar we are better able to manage the domain name and can provide better service. When you use another registrar service, it's not uncommon for us to have to send them paperwork and wait a few days for a reply. When we are the registrar we can make any needed change directly.

How is drh.net able to register my domain name?

We are a RSP (registration service provider) affiliated with the OpenSRS system (www.opensrs.org) which gives us an interface to the NSI registry though their servers. This means that they have the ICANN (www.icann.org) accreditation which allows them direct access to the domain name registry, but then they have accredited us as a reseller of sorts, a registration service provider (RSP).

Because we manage the customer relationship ourselves, they give us a really good price on the domain name which we pass along to you.

We are only able to register .com, .net, or .org domain names though OpenSRS. For any other name you need to work directly with the appropriate registry.

Are their any disadvantages to registering a domain with drh.net?

Currently, we don't have a management console where you can modify the details of your domain registration. Therefore, to make change to your domain name you need to go through our technical support which will be happy to make any changes you request. This means if you take the domain to another Web Hosting Provider, you will have to go through us to attach the name to their servers. If you would like direct access, you can transfer the domain name to another registrar and still keep the year of service you bought from us.

It's important to note that the name still belongs to you and is your property and you can take it to any Web Hosting Provider you wish. We make no claims of ownership on any domain you register though us.
